15 July 2006: the week before the big Convention.
Much like every other pro going to the San Diego Comic-Con International I'm going crazy. Endless work trying to make things ready and it still looks half-assed to me. Arggh!
I'm not saying it won't be a blast. For one thing, I'm hoping to meet some of you there. I'll be attending from Friday the 21st to Sunday the 23rd. Stop by Artists Alley table II-13 and say hi to me and my colorist Art. Also, if you drop by table II-12 you can see Zander Cannon and the rest of the Big Time Attic crew.
What else now... I'm up for two Eisners! One for Best Graphic Novel and another for Best Penciller/Inker. I'll get to finally meet my Brazillian correspondent Ivan. And I'll raise a little cash for the non-profits, which is the real reason for this email....
The man they called Jayne!!!
Some of you are gonna get pretty wiped out just paying for the hotel rooms and jet fuel to get to SD so let’s start with the cheapest option first. The California Browncoats are having a drawing, with a Firefly shooting script and the page below from my ABC: A to Z story among the prizes. Just $2 per ticket to get a chance at an original page!
If you don't know about Browncoats, Firefly and Joss Whedon, I'll just ask why you 're going to a Geek convention at all.
The money from this goes to Adam Baldwin's favorite charity, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation. MC-LEF provides scholarships and medical support for families of Marines and Federal law enforcement personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty. Buy as many tickets as you can afford!
You can find the Browncoats' table at A11-12 on the far right of the hall. The drawing takes place in Room 24A starting Sunday at 1:30.
You don't have to bid to win, just bid the price up a bit!
Art Lyon's Auction
Okay, this one isn't really for charity. But it is a good cause, and I don't get any of the proceeds. Art Lyon is trying to fund his trip to San Diego without taking food money from the mouths of his two babies. So he's selling off one of his beloved pages from The Forty Niners on eBay.
As I write the price has gotten up to $21.50. For an original Gene Ha page with fully painted inkwashes, yeesh. If it's going to go for that cheap, I'd like it to be won by one of you guys instead of some heartless speculator. Go to it!
I'll be signing at the ACTOR booth on Sunday from 11-1, in addition to making sketches. The plan is currently for me to do head sketches for $20 and torso shots for $100. If you're nice I'll put a head on top of that $100 torso. Their table is at A8, Aisle 300.
ACTOR raises money to help old comics legends to pay for stuff like life-saving operations. 'Cuz I prefer my legends to be living legends.
Not not for profit stuff...
I'll be hanging out at the DC booth on occasion. Cause Fletch is cool. And I'll be at the BCI booth Saturday 4-6 pm to sign copies of a few special projects I've done
Till next time,
